The
The Peninsula Medical School is a partnership between the University of Exeter,
the University of Plymouth and the NHS in Devon and Cornwall. It is one of the
country’s fastest growing medical schools and in a relatively short time has
established an impressive research presence. In the recent national Research
Assessment Exercise, the School was ranked 11 out of 28 for hospital-based
clinical research and 13 out of 24 for health services research.
Primary Care Research has developed an ambitious and growing portfolio.
Group members have been applicants on around £11m of funded research
applications, have published a substantial number of high-quality research outputs,
and have established a range of national and international research collaborations.
Primary Care research is thus an important strategic development area for the
Peninsula Medical School. As part of this ambitious growth strategy, the School is
seeking to appoint a Chair in Primary Care Health Services Research, to work in
partnership with the Professor of General Practice and Primary Care to provide
leadership for Primary Care research and to contribute to the PenCLAHRC clinical
effectiveness research agenda.
The post will be based in the School’s Exeter locality. The successful appointee will make a
major contribution to the clinical research profile of the School, and stimulate Primary Care
Research activity focussing specifically in South West Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The post holder will hold an honorary consultant contract with the relevant local primary care trust.
This is a University of Exeter appointment and the level of appointment will be dependent
upon research experience and standing.
